How does the volunteer program work?

Lodging and Food

When you start your volunteer work, you will most likely be staying at a specific project location where volunteer housing areas are available. There, Maquipucuna will provide sheets, blankets and towels; however if you prefer to have extra bath and hand towels you may want to bring some of your own. Generally, the provided rooms have two bunk beds where up to four people can sleep.

Regarding menus, there are three complete meals prepared per day, which is the same for tourists as for volunteers. Maquipucuna´s local staff prepares menus with home made and traditional local food ingredients which come from our organic orchards and groceries in Quito. Breakfast includes natural tropical juices, home made bread, local jellies, eggs, milk and fruit are available. The specialties for lunch are the delicious cereal soups along with a second dish of chicken or steak accompanied by rice, potatoes, yucca and a consistent salad. At night diverse dishes are served with the option of a hot cup of coffee or tea.

In case of vegetarian or lactose free needs, the menus can be adapted to these diets.
