Maquipucuna is home to 4% of the earth’s bird species, becoming one of the world priorities for bird conservation, already declared as “IBA”.

• It is located Within the “Global Epicenter of Biodiversity”

• At least 29 different species of humminbirds are registered in maquipucuna.
• More than 10% of the plant diversity of Ecuador has been registered in Maquipucuna by botanical experts lead by Dr. Grady Webster.
• It is estimated that the number of species grows up to 2,400.
• Approximately 400 species of orquids have been identified.
• Several new species of plants for science have been discovered.
• Dozens of endangered species have refuge in Maquipucuna.
• The Dart frog colostethus maquipucuna, is an specie which exists only in the Maquipucuna & Surrounding forests.
